Price Chopper Supermarkets and Market 32 Grocery Stores, both owned by Golub Corporation, are among the retailers offering COVID vaccines as part of the biggest immunization effort in U.S. history.
Select stores will be carrying the Moderna COVID vaccine, which research suggests is 94.5 percent effective in protecting against COVID after two doses are given 28 days apart.
The Price Chopper/Market 32 website currently features information on how to register for COVID vaccines in New York, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania, as well as the individuals the states are offering vaccines to. Price Chopper and Market 32 pharmacies in New Hampshire and Vermont have not yet received the COVID vaccine.
The Price Chopper/Market 32 website states: “COVID-19 Vaccines are in high demand. Check back daily for new available timeslots and information. Please note that our pharmacy team does not have the ability to schedule for you.”
It adds: “Appointments are limited. If there are no open spots in your local pharmacy, check back soon for more.”
In New York, pharmacies can only vaccinate those aged 65 and over. In Massachusetts, COVID vaccines are only available to those in Phase 1, and those aged 75 and older; and in Pennsylvania to those in Phase 1a, including health care personnel, those aged 65 and over, and 18 to 64-year-olds with a high risk condition.
Those who want to get vaccinated in Price Chopper/Market 32 stores in New York can click on hyperlinks marked “check availability” beside the listed store locations to see whether there are free slots. The links take you to a New York State Department of Health website. At the time of writing, nine stores were listed in the state, but none had availability. Vaccines in the state are by appointment only, and patients must fill out a form proving they are eligible to be vaccinated.
Vaccines are also only available by appointment in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania. In those states, Price Chopper or Market 32 COVID vaccine appointments are scheduled using a website run by a third party, where individuals must register for an account. Details including name, address, age, and telephone number are required, as well as COVID history.
Other retailers around the country that have offered COVID vaccines include H-E-B, Tops, Marc’s, Mariano’s, Giant Eagle, Kinney Drugs, Albertsons, Ralphs, Weis Markets, Walgreens, Rite Aid, CVS, and Kroger.
